Manchester PCE and SIG day short reports

LMCS SIG Events at IATEFL Manchester 2015
The LMCS SIG preconference event this year focused on teaching poetry to English language learners. This was a very dynamic, fun-packed day  of workshops were our speakers shared with enthusiastic participants different activities to bring poetry into the classroom in various different contexts, from young learners to EAP students. Conducting the workshops were our guest speakers Jeremy Harmer, Carol Read, Claudia Ferradas, Hania Bociek and Alan Maley, along with SIG Committee members Amos Paran, Alan Pulverness, Carel Burghout and Chris Lima.
The LMCS SIG day was also a very successful event with record attendances. Speakers came from a variety of contexts and provided very significant contributions to the discussion of themes related to our SIG.  These included picturebooks for children (Sandie Mourao), teaching language and culture (Benjamin Dobbs), literature and intercultural competence (Jennifer Schumm Fauster), teaching literature in the 21th century (Alan Maley), extensive reading in teacher education (Chris Lima), literature and creative thinking (Inas Kotby), and Shakespeare for language learners (Lisa Peter from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust).
The SIG Open Forum also took place on the SIG day and this was an opportunity to announce the future face-to-face and online events our SIG is organizing as well as new initiatives we are developing for our members. The write-up of both the PCE and the SIG Day presentations will be published in the following issues of the LMCS SIG newsletter
